PRIVATE LESSONS at Sakura Piano Studio

LIMITED SLOTS AVAILABLE FOR FALL 2024

I have been teaching for over ten years, with students ranging in all ages and levels. Throughout my graduate studies I was the teaching assistant for class piano at Sacramento State University, School of Music teaching music majors the fundamentals of playing piano. I also taught at Pacific Institute of Music in Folsom, CA as a piano instructor for the past nine years and at Tim's Music in Carmichael, CA for a couple of years. As a member of the Music Teacher's Association of California, I am qualified to teach materials required for the annual Certificate of Merit program where students are evaluated by level, their technique, theory, and playing abilities.

Students are welcomed into Sakura Piano Studio depending on availability of lesson slots, and through an audition process assessing current level, personality and teaching/learning style fit.

I generally do not recommend private lessons for children younger than 5 (highly recommend group music classes such as Harmony Road), but children older than 5 are welcome to come to my studio. Adults of any age are also welcome!

Lessons are once per week, consisting of technique, repertoire, music theory and ear training/ sight-reading. Technique and repertoire are mainly drawn from the “classical masters.” I tend to draw upon the Piano Adventures method books for younger children and beginners, and the Keith Snell Piano Repertoire collection when exposing more intermediate or advanced students to the classical style. I will eventually pick pieces from the canon of classical piano repertoire as this is my main expertise. I can and do teach popular genres such as film music and jazz but my main focus will always revert to western classical music.

Standard Monthly Rates per student (In-Studio, Somerville, MA):

  • Half hour- $170 ($42.50 per lesson)

  • 45 minutes- $255 ($63.75 per lesson)

  • One hour- $340 ($85 per lesson)

Diversity Statement: Students come from all different types of gender, ethnicity, age, and sexual orientations. I believe that when a person is treated with respect, and their issues listened to thoughtfully, we can create a more holistic, artistic, and innovative society. In my piano studio, I make piano lessons accessible to whomever is wanting lessons, especially since classical music tends to have an exclusionary history towards people of color. Every student deserves a chance to spread their creative wings and I welcome students from all backgrounds. I foster creativity in every student in a comfortable, and inclusive teaching space.
